הסערה בשל הופעת הזמר יעקב שוואקי ברחובות נמשכת: אל כולל 'עטרת גבריאל' ברחובות, בנשיאות הרב אברהם שהרבני והרב יצחק שאול ארנסט, הוזמן הבוקר המרא דאתרא של העיר, הגר"ש קוק, למסור שיעור על דיני תקיעת שופר וענייני דיומא.
בתום השיעור ביקש אחד האברכים שהרב יחווה את דעתו על מופע ההשקה הקרב של הזמר יעקב שוואקי לדיסק החדש שלו 'ליבי במזרח', המתוכנן להתקיים ב'ספורטק' ברחובות, זאת תוך כדי ישיבה מעורבת, כפי המובן מנוסח המודעות בהן נכתב בין היתר: "תתאפשר גם ישיבה נפרדת".
תחילה ביקש הרב להבהיר כי אין כאן, חלילה, כוונה זדונית מצד העוסקים במלאכה בעיריית רחובות, וכי כוונתם באמת ובתמים לבוא לקראת הציבור החרדי שומר התורה והמצוות, בכך שאפשרו להם מקום שיוכלו לשבת בו בנפרד בעת המופע.
לגופו של עניין, ענה הרב: "אנו לא יכולים לבוא למקום שיש בו מעורב. זה כבר היה פעם, לפני חמש/שש שנים, עשו שמחת בית השואבה כזאת והייתה תקלה גדולה מאוד: באו בנות של בית יעקב מהציבור החרדי, באו נערים ונערות שם מכל החוגים כולם – יצא מזה תקלה עצומה ונוראה".
הרב הוסיף מיד: "לכן, התאחדו כל רבני העיר רחובות לצאת נגד האמרגן". הרב הסביר שאת החילוקים הדקים הללו – אנו לא מצפים מהעירייה להבין וזה בסדר מצידם: "אנחנו לא תוקפים את העירייה - העירייה לא אשמה על דברים כאלה, אין שם אנשים שיכולים להבין את החילוקים הדקים הללו. אבל ודאי שהציבור החרדי חייב, חייב! להדיר את עצמו מהמקום הזה".
הרב ביקש להשלים את התשובה בסיפור הבא: אמש טלפנתי לשוואקי עצמו ושאלתיו: "אתה, שלמדת בישיבת לייקווד ואחר כך למדת בכולל של ישיבת לייקווד – כיצד תעשה פרצה כה חמורה בעירנו?!" ושוואקי השיב: "אין אני עושה זאת על דעתי אלא זאת בהתאם למה שרבותי באמריקה מנחים אותי". הרב ביקשו כי יאות לומר לו את שמות הרבנים להם הוא מתכוון, ושוואקי השיבו כי אחד מהם הוא הרב ראובן פיינשטיין, בנו של בעל האיגרות משה – הרב משה פיינשטיין זצוק"ל.
כאן לא מסתיים הסיפור: הרב לא חיכה רגע ובנוכחות אנשים נוספים בחדרו טלפן לרב ראובן פיינשטיין, ואמר לו ש"יש כאן שוואקי, הוא בא לעשות כאן דבר שגורם אצלנו תקלה בעיר: שיהיה מעורב, והוא אומר שכבודו התיר לו את הדבר הזה".
והרב ראובן פיינשטיין ענה מיד: "אני לא ראיתי אותו בחיים שלי. אני לא ראיתי אותו, אני שמעתי עליו. הנכד שלי אמר שהוא שר יפה, אבל חוץ מזה – אני לא יודע, אני לא יודע מי זה".
לשמע התשובה המפתיעה, מספר הרב, ניסיתי לטלפן בשנית אל שוואקי, אך הלה לא נענה לטלפון מסיבה שאיני יודעה.
"על כל פנים", מסכם הרב, "אני אטלפן אליו היום עוד פעם, אני יגיד לו: אדוני הנכבד, אתה פשוט הולכת אותנו שולל! אני לא רוצה להגיד בצורה יותר חריפה מזאת... הוא אומר לי שם של אדם, ר' ראובן פיינשטיין, שכביכול אמר את זה, בנו של ר' משה פיינשטיין, מגדולי הפוסקים באמריקה, ואני מטלפן אליו והוא אומר לי אני לא ראיתי אותו, לא ראיתי אותו(!), אני לא יודע מיהו..."

Schwekey is relying on an American standard permitted by R. Moshe zt"l for decades. What was precisely said to R. Kook is not known to me but it would be reasonable to assume that Schwekey had someone ask R. Reuven if R. Moshe's heter is still applicable. How that got translated in the conversation with R. Kook is unknown. Be that as it may, the concert has a separate seating section and has not been marketed to the chareidi community. If R. Kook says our olam shouldn't attend then I wouldn't attend. But the concert can bring great hisorerus to the community it is intended for.
Pasulling Schwekey because of a supposed lie is like passuling a Rav because of a supposed lie. You would be left with very few people to talk to in our kehillos
Rav KOOK, Shlita is the defacto Rav of Rechovot. If he demands not to have it take place in "his-shtut" should be respected. Therefore,....in addition a heter to break tzinious in someone elses teritory & in this day and age...PASULS his concerts, based on Reb Moshe's other pisokim.

Someone referenced Reb Moshe who was matir something. Can anyone give me the exact citation.
Rav Moshe never matered any concert. He told us no one is allowed to go under any conditions. The so called separate concerts , Rav Moshe also said was traif.

I was in Mirrer yeshiva when the Moetzes asked R' Shmuel Berenbaum zl to corner Yerachmiel Begun during seder over a mixed seating Miami Boys Choir concert. This was more than 20 years ago. The gedolim had no problem then with separate seating which Begun agreed to when put up to the wall.
If R' Moshe assered separate seating, it does not mean the velt was mekabel and is therefore not binding just like his psak is not binding where he assers opening a potato chip bag on Shabbos.
I thought R' Moshe had a psak about no music Zecher lechurban.
Nigun he had a heter [if I remeber] for as long as you don't think of the tumah words.
As for mixed seating, why was BMG dinner allowed? Does it have a mechitza today?
No music zecher lechurban is a machlokes as is well known. It's a bigger problem in Yerushalayim than elsewhere.
Sure, let's ban all concerts and all Jewish singers. Put them in cherem! After all, they make Jewish children happy with their performances. On the other hand, we should enable and protect our heilige child molesters who perform unspeakably cruel and disgusting acts on our children. They are constantly helping the needy and doing chesed for underprivileged children. To call for a ban on their music and causing them financial harm and personal distress is cruel and unfair. Yaakov Shwekey follows the dictates of his rebbeim, Rav Ovadya Yosef, Rav Shlomo Diamond (his rosh kolel and the son-in-law of Rav Yehuda Davis) and his uncle, Rav Shmuel Choueka. If one feels that he is too holy to attend family seating concerts, then don't go. But to threaten and coerce other people into not attending is a crime. It's about time you start targeting the real menaces in our society and leave these decent and upright individuals alone. You do an excellent job in exposing the fraud and corruption in the kashrus industry. However, your failure to address the rampant child sexual abuse problem in Lakewood (read last week's APP article about Yossi Kolko) and in other communities while you harp on such pettiness as concerts, is very disheartening and demands some introspection on your part. WHERE ARE YOUR PRIORITIES????

What's to see on this video? Rav Shteinman clearly ignores Amnon Yitzchak's call for a ban on Shwekey. Yesterday Rav Elyashiv also turned him away. This ridiculous crusade borne out of jealously needs to stop. WE HAVE REAL PROBLEMS TO DEAL WITH. This is not one of them!
