Another reason, one should insist on a "skin-tab" for frozen filet fish

UPDATE- We gave a hashgocha at a bar mitzvah this past week, we insisted on Tilapia with a skin-tab & NO Heimish HASHGOCHA on the box.

We wrote to Dagim, received No response nor acknowledgement.

TILAPIA fish-Frozen, skinless filet, with 2 prominent kosher certifiers
 International & Heimish Hashgochas.

Production date: "19 04 2011" (first day pesach?, ys)

Some of the production was done in June 2011, the prices are cheaper for April product. The importer is interested in $$$ bottom line. The Chinese took them knowingly for a ride.

The Mashgiach didn't "chap" the game, One supervised box for every 3-4 boxes from April that were unsupervised.

The Queens Vaad and their affiliates have long been bedfellows $$ of ultra-pro-gay-"marriage" politician David Weprin, whose claim to be "orthodox" falls flat on it's face. Lately they have been sending their stooge around, Asher Taub, who happens to have a law degree, to smear the anti-Toayvah Republican Bob Turner who is running against Weprin for the 9th district Congressional seat.

Taub did something that can only be described as disgusting. He lied in a newspaper editorial that he was with the Turner campaign. Taub was not with the campaign and is himself backing away now from saying it. Taub went on to dishonestly undermine Mr. Turner on several fronts and is back in this week's edition of 5 Towns Jewish Times with more garbage. That newspaper of course are zoynas for whoever sends ad dollars their way. I would also be willing to bet that "interests" reached publisher Larry Gordon at home before he changed overnight from a Turner supporter to a Weprin $upporter, which is completely unethical in journalism.

5 Towns Jewish Times keeps running one hysterically pro-Weprin piece after another. They ran not one but two pieces on the same autism foundation that Weprin steered taxpayer money to. That is just resurrecting alter nayess from many years ago. What has Weprin done for anyone lately? As a matter of fact, one rov in Queens says that Conservative & Reform Jewish politicians in Queens have given him much more help than David Weprin who has done close to nothing for his kehillah if not nothing at all.

Taub is lying that Turner does not campaign in frum areas. I personally saw Turner campaigning by the oylam in the Catskills.

Taub is lying that no frum Jews are in the Turner campaign. I personally called the campaign office and a frum Jew came to the phone to speak to me. He was brief and had to call me back because he was going into a meeting with top level campaign officials. He was not a poser as I made sure to engage him in frum shprach.

Taub is trying to spin the Ed Koch endorsement of Turner as a personal vendetta against the Weprin family which is ridiculous. While a lot of people did not like Weprin's father because he was a vicious politician, Ed Koch made clear long ago that Obama stabbed Yidden in the back and he will do everything to defeat both Obama and his political allies which is exactly where Weprin stands.

Taub is lying that not a single rov has endorsed Turner. While rabbonim mostly cannot give official endorsements to anyone because of legal restrictions for non-profits, all kinds of rabbonim & gedolim say by every election to vote for a right leaning candidate who is not pro-gay.

Taub is smearing Turner as a racist and anti-Semite for living in an Irish neighborhood like Breezy Point. Taub first lied that no Jews live there. After angry Jewish residents there came out in public to criticize Taub, he has switched to saying that no FRUM Jews live there. Why would frum Jews live in a completely Irish neighborhood where many of the houses are fishing shack size and not appropriate for frum families? Taub goes further that no Blacks, Hispanics or Indians live there and are especially secluded by the gate. Breezy Point started in the 1800s as an Irish settlement so it's not like it's a big draw for those groups. I guess Taub will now have to disassociate himself from several groups of frum Jews. Chassidishe residents of Brooklyn buildings with gates around them that are entirely Jewish. 5 Towns gated communities like Sutton Park & Harborview that do not have a single resident who is Black, Hispanic or Indian. The alter Mirrer rov in Sutton Park, Rav Naiman ztl, who died last year at 101 and the rov in Harborview, Rav Kalish, who makes a siyum on Shas once a year must be racists who Taub cannot associate with.

Taub is a backstabbing double agent who is making a chilul Hashem

The local Jewish Times paper can be really strange but revealing at the same time. They ran an obituary for a worker in the catering division of Supersol, or Seasons as it's now called, and which uses Tevya's meat from Rubashkin exclusively. The niftar was a Haitian shvartza who passed away at the young age of 36. Normally when someone dies so young, they make sure to mention the cause of death, maybe a heart attack or an aneurism. And normally when there is no mention, it's because it's something that's not polite to mention. Being that there was no cause of death mentioned, I was wondering about the fact that the country Haiti has the highest rate in the world of yenner machala, and I'm not referring to cancer. I'm all for diversity and hiring people of different races but maybe it's best that someone cooking and preparing food all day should have a healthy outlook.

You should see the angry clamoring at women's groups from Queens Vaad modern orthodox shuls where the roiv is demanding to have women rabbis. The Queens Vaad always sticks a wet finger in the air to determine which way the wind is blowing. They don't want to get their wealthy modern baal habatim upset which is why there is no real kashrus standard and why they will tolerate more & more of the feminist meshugassin. At the same time they don't want the haymishe crowd to know what they are doing so in a brilliant PR move they sent a yeshivishe maniac around to pretend they are doing the exact opposite.

http://www.haaretz.com/weekend/anglo-file/israel-affecting-growing-liberalism-among-orthodox-u-s-jews-says-sociologist-1.379496

19.08.11

Israeli institutions are playing a role in a tendency among some American Orthodox Jews to slide back to the left, according to the same scholar who 13 years ago observed a tendency among American Orthodox Jews to become religiously more stringent.

The assumed slide to the left can be witnessed in areas such as women’s equality in Orthodox synagogues, U.S.-Israeli sociologist Chaim Waxman told Anglo File this month.

“It’s clearly a minority phenomenon, but it’s a phenomenon that’s grown. Some of this was unheard of as recently as 10 years ago.”

In 1998, Waxman, a professor emeritus at Rutgers University, published “The Haredization of American Orthodox Jewry,” an article suggesting it was “inevitable that Orthodoxy in modern society will adopt a stance of greater isolation and especially of ritualistic stringency.”

Others made similar observations, most notably sociologist Samuel Heilman, who in 2006 published “Sliding to the Right,” a book dedicated to the topic.

This summer, Waxman co-authored an article titled “Sliding to the Left?” Based on 50 interviews with “knowledgeable observers,” Waxman & Yehuda Turetsky argue the Orthodox community “is much more heterogeneous” than originally believed. Some developments indicate a “significant ritualistic departure not only from Haredi norms & values but from traditional Jewish religious behavior as well,” they write.

“There appears to have been a shift in the staunch opposition to anything but the traditional ‘Torah from Sinai’ belief.” Waxman told Anglo File, “There is significant movement to the left, and it manifests itself most prominently in women’s issues, theologically & organizationally.”

Israeli programs play a role in this change, according to Waxman. “In Jerusalem, Orthodox programs such as Matan, Michlelet Lindenbaum, and Nishmat, where significant numbers of American Orthodox women study, have had a significant impact on the levels of intensive & extensive Jewish education for Orthodox women,” he wrote.

Shira Hadasha, an Orthodox feminist congregation in Jerusalem − where men & women sit separately but women read from the Torah & lead parts of the service − “serves as a model for some in the U.S. who want to have egalitarian minyanim,” he said.

There are also more “rabbot” − female spiritual leaders of congregations, he added. “Along with that comes a desire for equal status within communities. Whereas it was almost unheard of 50 years ago for a woman to be president of an Orthodox synagogue, today it’s not unheard of,” he said.

The Badatz should push for an Israeli wine trade show that is completely kosher with some basic levels of normal behavior and not allow their wineries to participate in these kinds of atrocious affairs. Many Israelis wineries are not kosher and that's not all:

http://blogs.forward.com/the-jew-and-the-carrot/141545/

For the small but budding wine community of Israel (and many local revelers), The Israel Wine Festival at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem is the pinnacle event of the year. Friends and celebrities — close to 10,000 of them — mingle outside between the museum’s buildings and trees. Wines from around the country were poured, as guests munch on locally made cheeses from places like Jacob’s Dairy.

Chillag Winery: was established in 1998 by Orna Chillag, one of the four female winemakers in Israel, and the only female owner of a winery in Israel. (She came dressed festively as a Greek goddess to the festival). The winery produces 20,000 bottles annually with grapes from the Upper Galilee that are made into wine in a facility located in the center of Israel. Chillag is not kosher ...

MONTREAL — The trial of a Montreal man accused of defrauding at least a dozen Orthodox Jews in a Ponzi scheme has been set to begin Oct. 3.

Perry Newman, 51, faces 9 charges of fraud, theft & forgery. Between 1996 & 2010, he swindled between $10 & $12 million from between 12 to 15 people who believed he was investing their money legitimately, said lawyer Neil Stein, who represents the victims.

Newman has not entered a plea. He was released after his arrest by Montreal police on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

The largest amount – $5 million – was lost by Edith Olanoff of Israel, who made the first complaint to police. All of the other victims live in New York, and two of them are out between $300,000 to $400,000 each, Stein said.

Newman presented himself as a financial adviser & had a company, Dover Financial, that was registered in the Caribbean country of Turks & Caicos.

Stein said Newman sent out bogus statements to his clients about how their investments were doing using the forged letterhead of FC Stone, a legitimate brokerage firm in the United States.

“He never invested one dime of his so-called clients’ money,” Stein said.

Stein said Newman preyed on observant Jews, with whom he claimed to identify. The accused settled in Montreal in the mid-1990s from his native England, where, he has made known, he had attended a religious educational institution.

Newman, who lived in a fine home in Hampstead, attended services at a Côte St. Luc synagogue.

Through bankruptcy trustees RSM Richter, Stein has launched civil proceedings against Newman’s wife, Sarah Stern-Newman, and the couple’s 3 sons to recover $1.5 million they received through Dover. No criminal charges have been laid against them.

Newman himself is now bankrupt, following proceedings against him last year.

A document submitted to the court by the trustee alleges Newman used his “Jewish Orthodox roots to convince investors of his honesty, his high level of ethical standards, and his financial capacity.”

At your recommendation I have been using only Positive Produce products. I have noticed that on their cabbage products the words "green house grown", the pride and joy of the Positive Produce system, are not on the bags. Furthermore on all the lettuce bags they have a picture of a green house and on the cabbage there is no picture of a green house. Does that mean that Positive Produce cabbage is not green house grown? If not, can we still assume it's bug free?

Oiker Horim: This never happened. One agency claimed it, with no basis. Many places with skin tabs accidentally cut the tab off and try to stick it back on using the freezer (often falls off in the freezing process but not always). No glue, just freezing (agreed not uncommon). You can easily tell if slapped on even on frozen fish though.

Skin tabs are the best method, without question.

This should be checked out to determine if Gissinger & Abecasis, who hide behind the Chof K banner, are getting away with a big no-no.

If the problem does exist as it seems to appear, maybe they think no one will find out since it is through a caterer that primarily targets the Conservative & Reform crowd.

A NY caterer named Joseph Craig is doing events at "Dave & Busters" which is similar to the treif Chuck E Cheese child-appropriate chain but differs in that it is an adult atmosphere because of the type of recreation and the open bar concept.

While I will assume that all the food is probably cooked outside instead of relying on kashering the D&B kitchen ben yomo, it's not likely that Dave & Busters would agree to seal off the open concept bar that is full of treif alcoholic drinks as it is a significant source of revenue and integral part of their theme. I would also be very surprised if there is a mashgiach constantly present at the bar that makes sure only kosher drinks are served.

D&B uses the ubiquitous goyish terminology "happy hour" in referring to drinking ad delo yada (the pirush of the Vilna Gaon is that it is much less than dead drunk). A rosh yeshiva who picked up his derech in musser from alter Kelmers has mentioned in shmuzen that people ohn Tayrah don't have any sense of simchas hachaim unless they lose themselves with alcohol which is why every bar uses the term happy hour.

Whether your favorite happy hour beverage is a cocktail, a beer or a glass of wine, the bar at Dave & Buster's has a drink special for you.* We also offer happy hour specials* on drinks like our Aquamarine Martini, Perfect Patrón® Margarita (with both Patrón® Silver tequila and Patron® Citrónge) and our signature TNTea - a blend of ABSOLUT® vodka, Tanqueray® gin, Bacardi® rum, Grand Marnier®, sweet-n-sour and Coca-Cola®. Herring sold in Ikea's grocery stores has long had the forged hashgocho of Rabbi Edelman, the former Chief Rabbi of Sweden. The problem is that 10 years after he left to become the Chief Rabbi of Finland, they were still printing his old hashgocho symbol on a product he had not certified in over a decade.

YNet News
24 August 2011

The Nazi past of Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of global home products company IKEA, was first revealed in the 1990s.

But these Nazi ties were not a temporary "teenage confusion", as Kamprad had claimed in the past, according to a new book described in a Stockholm News report Tuesday, but an ideology he continued to support long after World War II and despite his friendship and business relations with a Jewish man.

In her book, "Och i Wienerwald står träden kvar" (And in Wienerwald the trees remain), author Elisabeth Åsbrink writes about the life of Otto Ullmann, who came to Sweden from Vienna with a transport of Jewish children, and was placed with the family Kamprad.

There he became friends with young Ingvar Kamprad, who was active in the far-Right "Nysvenska rörelsen" (New Swedish Movement) and for a while also was very active in the purely Nazi party "Svensk socialistisk samling" (Swedish Socialist Unity).

During the war, the Swedish secret police prepared a file on 17-year-old Kamprad and labeled him as a Nazi. The file said he worked to recruit new members to the Nazi party, according to a letter he himself wrote.

Åsbrink claims that Kamprad's relationship with the far-Right party and with its leader Per Engdahl continued long after the war, even when the horrors of the Holocaust became known to the world.

Engdahl was a guest at Kamprad’s wedding in 1950 and the IKEA founder even wrote him a letter, saying he was "proud to be part of the New Swedish circle."

At the same time, Stockholm News reported, the Jewish refugee Ullmann remained one of Kamprad's closest friends and helped him build the global home products company.

Some information about Kamprad's Nazi past was first revealed in 1994, when Engdahl died and his correspondences were published. Kamprad argued in the past that his attraction to the Nazis stemmed from his confusion as a teenager, and that he was in fact more of a fascist than a Nazi.

But according to Åsbrink, Engdahl's party had a Nazi ideology, not just a fascist one. "The Jews are an alien element in the Western public body," Engdahl had written. In 1944, he referred to Hitler as "Europe's savior".

According to the book, after the war Engdahl remained opposed to democracy, and even helped Nazis from Norway and Denmark evade trial.

Nonetheless, in an interview he gave to Åsbrink a year ago, Kamprad stated that “Per Engdahl was a great man. This I will maintain as long as I live.”

Weprin was invited to Joel Schonfeld's shul one night this week and was greeted by Chaim Schwartz. After the Vaad was blasted for being on the take from Weprin and supporting him, they tried to pretend to be even handed by allowing Turner to debate him in the flagship VHQ shul. What business do they have using a shul for this purpose? In any case, Spotlight associates were on hand to call Weprin on his lies to the audience.

http://www.cityhallnews.com/2011/08/weprin-faces-backlash-in-orthodox-community/

Insiders say Assemblyman David Weprin, running in the special election for Anthony Weiner’s congressional seat, is facing a revolt among Orthodox Jews – though he himself is an Orthodox Jew – because he strongly defended same-sex marriage during an Albany debate.

In his June 15 speech, Weprin said his own Orthodox rabbi would not marry a Jew & a non-Jew, which he felt was wrong – and that gay marriage was no different.

“My religion is very important to me personally, but this is not a religious issue,” Weprin said. “I think everyone here would agree that we should not be outlawing marriages between Jews & non-Jews or interracial marriages.”

Weprin’s comment garnered little notice in the wider world. But his rhetoric has since gained wide attention by many in the Orthodox Jewish community, and videos of his speech have rocketed across their websites.

And though the Orthodox population in Kew Gardens & especially in Flatbush does not make up an overwhelming part of the district, the community is full of committed voters who could well make a difference in a low turnout special election.

“What he said in the Assembly has been played over & over on YouTube,” said one well-connected neutral observer of the race. “People were really offended that he said he was Orthodox who was supporting gay marriage.”

During the campaign, some rabbis have refused to meet with Weprin, while the newspaper Hamodia reported that others have refused to be photographed with the assemblyman. Editorial writers for Jewish newspapers & well-read blogs have blasted him.

Weprin met Wednesday with the leadership of the organization Agudath Israel. But he walked out of the room without securing the leadership’s endorsement, despite steering massive Council grants to the group.

...

New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D) will not support fellow Orthodox Assemblyman David Weprin in the election September 13 to replace disgraced ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner. The congressional district covers Brooklyn & Queens & is home to many Orthodox Jewish voters.

Hikind emphasized that Weprin had lost his vote by bringing in his religion to back his vote for the gay marriage law that carried the New York legislature in June. The fact that he backed the law at all cost Weprin Orthodox votes.

"I will not support David Weprin," said the Brooklyn state Assemblyman

"Weprin basically used his Jewish orthodoxy to say gay marriage is OK. He used his orthodoxy to say gay marriage is kosher. That crossed the line," Hikind added.

Here is the infamous picture of David Weprin marching in the "gay pride" parade while waving the rainbow flag of the militant "gay rights" movement.

The Queens Vaad's hypocrite secret agent Asher Taub had been telling people he was going to look for this picture (as if it's so hard to find in many online newspapers) to expose Weprin. Taub never made good on his word before turning into the chief attack hundt against Weprin's anti-toyavah opponent in the upcoming election.

Rabbonim all over Brooklyn & Queens have refused to even meet with Weprin. The two-faced among the rabbonus just make sure not to be photographed with him. Does Chaim Schwartz have a heter to shake Weprin's hand from one of his "recognized gedolim" whether they be in "Australia" or wherever? The Agudah seems to hold it's mutter bedieved, maybe if taking a shower immediately after to minimize the tumah.

David Weprin is a dishonest lowlife who will resort to any dirty trick to keep his job.

http://www.yournabe.com/articles/2010/02/17/whitestone_times/news/whitestone_times_newsqqhkotz02172010.txt

When he ran for State Assembly, his opponent was the anti-toyavah Bob Friedrich.

The Weprin campaign tried to hide the fact that they were the ones who mailed out a flyer showing Friedrich with a Nazi swastika for being anti-toyavah. Friedrich is a Yid but they were hoping everyone thought he was German. When Weprin was caught because of an identifying factor they didn't think would lead back to them, he refused to apologize, calling Friedrich a bigot and extremist for his anti-toyavah position.

As this article explains, Weprin's campaign manager Corey Bearak was forced to resign over the scandal but only because of a revolt at the Queens Civic Congress over such a disgusting tactic, not because Weprin is sorry about anything. Congress delegates who are mostly Democrats were threatening mass resignations that would dissolve the Congress unless Bearak resigned for Weprin's atrocious behavior. (This newspaper is very Liberal and pro-Weprin so they left out the gay details, only mentioning a much more minor factor)

Bearak is still an official at the Queens Jewish Community Council along with several Queens Vaad rabbis.

They say there is also someone at the Vaad who will do anything to keep his job.

New Take On Stealing ATM PIN Numbers
Thermal cameras are the new rage for stealing your ATM PIN number. The technology is called FLIR (Forward Looking Infra-Red) and is commonly used in night vision applications and inspecting homes for moisture problems.

Using a thermal camera it is easy to figure out the set of numbers in a pin and oftentimes get the correct numerical order too.

How Easy Is This?

You can rent a thermal camera at Home Depot! But the good news is: I’m going to tell you how to defeat it!!! But first the research:

Researchers from UCSD pointed thermal cameras towards plastic ATM PIN pads and metal ATM PIN pads to test how effective they were at stealing PIN numbers. The thermal cams didn’t work against metal pads but on plastic pads the success rate of detecting all the digits was 80% after 10 seconds and 60% after 45 seconds. For your average ATM trip, that’s a wide window of opportunity and an very high success rate for thieves to take advantage of.

The research shows that thermal cameras are better at stealing PIN numbers than video cameras because they work even when a person shields their hand.

How It Works and How to Beat It:

The person’s body temperature, the strength of the button presses and the length of the press all helped thermal cams figure out the person’s PIN and sequence. Before criminals and thieves realize how awesome thermal cams can be for their line of work, it’s very easy to foil their evil plans!

All you have to do is place your fingers on keys OTHER than your PIN number before you actually enter your REAL PIN number. Don’t press on the fake keys, just gently rub your fingers across them to fool the thermal camera and then enter your real PIN with gentle but quick presses.

It took a long time for Joe Lieberman to be exposed as a fraud who posed as orthodox and the same seems to be delaying David Weprin from being properly described. They both push for gay "marriage" yet merit audiences from the Agudah. And both say that they have a problem with orthodox Judaism being opposed to intermarriage.

Weprin sometimes refers to himself as observant instead of orthodox which is what Lieberman did when he started being a little more honest with the public.

Weprin is not orthodox in his personal life just like Joe Lieberman. At least Lieberman davens with an orthodox minyan every 2nd Shabbos which is better than Weprin who does not daven with a minyan any Shabbos morning. He just shows his face around leining time to shmooz with his friends.

You would have been better off eating a cheeseburger at McDonalds. It is a machlokes if someone hurting a ger with words is oyver on 35 or as many as 45 lavin. The Minchas Chinuch explains why there is such chomer. Why don't you ask all your Rabbi-Doctor and college grad associates at all the modern orthodox organizations you've worked at who gave them a heter? Let's see how long you would last then. You know how to be mechanef when you want to get compensated. Hypocrite! That ger nebich had a lot of tzorus in his life before the college. You mock to imply Rav Karelitz would never give a heter. How do you know what he would posken for a real bezunderra case? One of the biggest roshei yeshiva of this past dor who was very against college would be mattir for specific individuals where there was a bezunderra tzorech.

I don't understand the cheshbon. If it is cheaper in April as you say, then the Chinese would want to say everything is made in June when they could make more money through misrepresenting. Please clarify.

Its a good thing you were not around then. If you would of been around he would have not been a "biggest roshei yeshiva" by the time you were finished with him.
How many lavin was that???

"How do you know what he would posken for a real bezunderra case?"

Maybe there was a bezunderra tzorech for Chaimel (I mean myself) for a real bezunderra heter to Rav Wosner (If its true that someone ever spoke to him)?

Maybe there was a bezunderra tzorech for SPOTLIGHT ON THE QUEENS VAAD for a real bezunderra heter to baashmootz and baaredd

Maybe there was a bezunderra tzorech for SPOTLIGHT ON THE QUEENS VAAD for a real bezunderra heter to dream up stuff and just blabber it out?

to think that ANYONE stopped eating or patronizing any VHQ establishment

the rov of schwartzs own shul doesnt eat from him. who needs spotlight when you have something even more concrete like that

queens rabbonim who don't eat vhq are generally too scared to speak up because they know how the schonfelds & steinberg go for the jugular. most queens rabbonim dont bother to investigate things or just dont care about kashrus like even some of the so called black hat types who will go to hotels under just about any hashgocho as scholar in residence as long as he gets a free vacation

there are also brooklyn rabbonim who tell people who go to queens not to eat in the restaurants there

If you only knew where "the rov of schwartzs own shul" DOES eat from, your hair would stand up.
Of course you won't ever admit that or else your out of business.

Now Chaim is criticizing the rov of his own shul who he insinuates is eating food worse than VHQ. So why doesn't Chaim daven by the VHQ shul on Lefferts? Oh, because it's modern orthodox so it's the wrong image for him. Don't confuse him with the facts that his job in the voch is with a modern orthodox organization. We wouldn't want the poor guy to have an identity crisis.

Not nice to ignore the big avlah you committed by speaking nasty against the ger tzedek. Why don't you owe up to it instead of changing the subject and attacking your opponent with lies?
