Someone from the insect department at a certain hashgocho was visiting the 5 Towns and went to take a look at how the checking is done at one of the supermarkets. The specific mashgiach for checking lettuce at that supermarket was bragging to him that he's a big expert. The visiting mashgiach was shocked at the handiwork of the big expert as he reportedly found a lot of problems while re-checking.

These Yoielis were obviously sent by the Nirbater to Georgia. The cabbage "stew" with meat & tomato sauce has to be the Alle cabbage rolls as Alle has a national contract with BJ's Wholesale Club. And who else would be buying 170 tons a month of cabbage for this purpose?

When you enlarge the pictures though, is there cause for concern? Are there only two mashgichim for this tremendous volume? And the way the cabbages are cut open, does that mean they are only checking samples instead of every leaf? Are heimishe hashgochos no longer checking every leaf?

There is a place where a lot of haymishe simchos & kiddushim are made that the only official kosher caterer is Michael Schick.

What people don't realize is that there is a back door way that another kosher caterer with lower standards can get in there. The caterer that has the exclusive contract for treif provides a kosher option under the hashgocho of Rabbi Gershon Kreuser who is said to be less than OU standard.

If you are a guest, make sure that it's Michael Schick's crew working the event.

(And while you are at it, ask Schick's crew if they are using Rubashkin / Tevya's like Schick a lot of times has used)

There was a major story in yesterday's NY Times about a new energy source being harvested by Japan under the floor of the Pacific ocean. It is much cheaper than oil and gas. It is ice full of gases that catches on fire even though it is ice. I was wondering at first if this could have been by makkas borod. I don't think so because it says the ice on fire by borod was not something that was derech teva. This is shayich to another limud however that it says in seforim when Yishmoel has temporary chashivus it is only because everyone needs them (dehaynu for oil). Chazal say the phony malchus of Yishmoel is like clay because it disintegrates after a short lifespan by bias goel. Halevay that this new energy source should make Arab oil irrelevant & usher in Moshiach tzikainu.

Over 25 years ago someone tells me he was a mechanech in Yehupitz who moonlighted as an OU mashgiach.

He worked at a large facility that handled both kosher & treif. One day he noticed that a part needed to be replaced that directly touched the food. A worker had to walk a very long distance to get the replacement from the designated kosher area. The mashgiach was frightened how close there were treif parts available that could easily be switched to the kosher side if he was not there.

This was before the age of video cameras. Has the OU improved security with video monitoring to prevent this kind of thing?

I would have guessed it was in preparation for all us hungerik chevra at the convention who act like we never saw food before, except that the Agudah prefers to give the business to Rubashkin instead of Alle.

Tznius is a sore subject to most of us,(for me too) the Gra”h (the Vilna Goan) writes that the same way that men are protected by learning Torah, women are protected by their Tznius, this has nothing to do with Yocheved (post # 45) this has to do with what it says in our Torah: that when we lack Tznius Hashem removes him self from us c”v and then we are all in great danger as we have seen what happened to us with the Gloubers who where holy Neshomos that suffered for the rest of us. Yocheved already quoted, suggesting that Tznius needs improvement it’s like saying don’t stop breathing if want to stay alive, unfortunately we all know that Tznius desires much improvement in many communities world wide. “Tznius is Hashem’s pride and glory”

As far as people pretending to be Neviam and suggesting all sort of Mitzvos that we have to improve on, its OK to do so, because Hashem didn’t bring this kind of tragedy up on us so that we can keep on living our lives as we have been till now, Hashem is crying out loud SCREAMING at us saying “I have taken away from you a special holy pure clean couple who where a Korbon Tzibur in order to wake up the rest of the Klall” everyone is always welcome to share their thoughts ideas and feelings in order to make sure that all of us are starting to wake up and practicing the Mitzvos in a better way that we have been conforming till now.

However Tznius is always on the top priority of the list, that desires much improvement! BTW the Mitzvah of Tznius is for men and women alike, There has never been a time in Jewish history that any Leader i.e. a Rav, Godol, Mekubal, Chacham or Rebbeh suggesting to stop improving our Tznius, I know that it’s a sore subject to most of us (4 ME TOO) yes it is very difficult because we all want to look good, but looking good is for inside of our homes not when we go outside.

I was personally very moved by Yocheved’s post and spent much time going through my wardrobe putting much of what I found to be inappropriate according to Halocha in the garbage as a Zechus for the Gloubers Z”L.

Tznius is not an obsession Tznius is the way Hashem expects us to dress think and live, i.e. if a Bas Yisroel is walking down the street dressed Tznius and is still talking loud, or making noise with her heals-shoes, attracting attention from men in any way, she is not fully complying with the laws of Tznius.

May Hashem help us and we should be Zocha to: have a Korbon Pesach this year - בזכות נשים צדקניות

Yudel,

at NPGS Jackson there is a display case that has cheese danishes in it. There are bilkelach in the same case that presumably are pareve but are too close to the cheese for comfort.

I also saw someone looking for a plastic for a large challah and reached for the pile of plastic bags that were touching the cheese danishes. He didn't realize until I pointed it out to him.

And the proximity on the shelves of chometz to pesach goods is also very close in a way that I have not seen hashgochos allowing outside of Lakewood. Some of the signs labeling Pesach & chometz also seem to be sloppily put up in error. It's good that there are dedicated pesach check out lines so why not be more careful before getting to the check out?

You'll have more z'chuzim if you clean your house for pesach instead of "hocking" on Yudelstake.

Check out how the SALE prices on many, many Pesach groceries at NPGS are more expensive than the regular prices at NY supermarkets

Is there any illegal price fixing going on in town?
