Locally grown Romaine Hearts were being kosher certified by a LA Certifying agency as free from infestation. After we checked the Romaine hearts they were found to be infested. We spoke to the mashgiach to ascertain the system of checking & washing of the Romaine hearts in order for them to be insect free.
Romaine Hearts have the leaves still attached, they are not washed as individual leaves. The Mashgiach said he observes the hearts as they travel on a belt through some sprayers and then it's packed. He was asked but they are infested, you can only see one side of one leaf. He said talk to the certifying agency "I'm doing what i was told to do.
