2nd UPDATE: ALERT: by Hisachdus Harabonim di'Lakewood- All NORI wraps used for Sushi are infested

UPDATE: THERE ARE "SOY-WRAPS" & "RICE-WRAPS" AVAILABLE!
Sushi is also made without any wrap at all!

ALERT:  All Nori Wraps (used for Sushi) are infested

[The "copepods" in the nori are of various colors, & not the same as the ones in water which are "translucent". ]
The infestation was verified by Rav Moshe Vaye,
the Aida and R' Revach

הבעיות מקיפות את כל ההכשרים. שניאור רווח

Even the ones with hashgochas have the "copepds" and other small insects and other non kosher !

  1. Nori was always heavily infested, it's nothing new

The chidush is that this time it's with a new species of copepods, they are brownish and not see through like the nyc water copepod

Its easier to find the copepods when nori is dissolved, as rav vaye did in his lab

  2. Continuation of first comment:

I believe the species of copepods we are dealing with is Dactylopusioides malleus, it was first discovered in korean seaweed in 2007

  3. Yudel. Can clarify whether an employee who handles food without gloves ,is it also lacking in kashrus besides a lack of hygiene?

  4. Can we see a letter to that effect from Rav Vaye?

  5. Do you really need a letter in order to believe? Maybe you want Rav Vaye to come to your house too and show you

    1. Dont listen to yudel or anyone for that matter unless he provides you with a letter from said rav or rabbi

    2. Why do you need a letter? Are you afraid that he actually knows what he's talking about?

The handful of clueless people who rely on his announcements are waiting for him to insist on behalf of his employer, as well as on behalf of the Metropolitan Ave & Main St hashgocho in yener boro as der oylam esst nuch "kusher".

  8. Pomegranate makes types of sushi without seaweed.

And these varieties can be special ordered at many other stores:

    Just rice

Soy paper taking the place of seaweed

  10. Are you sure Hisachdus d'Lakewood said ALL brands are infested?

A while back I asked Rabbi Eisen specifically what I should do because I am afraid some hashgochos may be letting miniature seahorses & other shrotzim "slip in" to the seaweed sheets which I believe all come from China. He said to use the brand with Volover hashgocho.

  11. 5 towns, the problem is not seahorses or crabs, it's copepods, and rabbi eisen is most likely not aware this is even an issue

Volo very is stubborn and refuses to listen, I've tried telling them, even sent them pictures, but they are not mekabel, because if they would it would mean every sheet has to be checked by mumche, something which they don't have and don't want to pay for

They are relying on the clueless tzibbur

It's been about a year since infestation was first found and the fact that no hechsher has said anything or updated their methods of cleaning shows that up till a few months ago (when we told them) they had no idea what's going on because they have no one experienced and trained checking
Supposedly reliable hashgochas were informed a few months ago about this, and still haven't taken action

  12. Something is not right for a long time with the heimishe shgoochas when it comes to sushi.

Rav Gruber is allowing the roe to be put around the rice. Is there such a thing as roe without worms?

And even the Shinover is allowing the imitation crab. He claims he checks it. Is there anyone here bakant with the ultraviolet if it will detect worms in something compressed? And then how do you remove the worms even if you can find them? The Shinover is also only checking the first few inches of whole fresh fish, which if clean he doesn't bother to check the rest of the fish.

  13. it's like the infested star-k sun dried tomatoes repacked with rav gruber's symbol. does rav gruber even know what's going on? some rabbonim say he is another gornish with too many accounts. at least gornish pays peanuts for bottom of the barrel mashgichim who know nothing as he tries to keep all the revach for himself. but rav gruber has been known to do entire chassunos as the only person there running around like a shvitzer

  14. Copepods in salt water are known as plankton. Whales eat them a gantz tog by sloshing ocean water around their mouth.

What is the translation of those difficult words in modern Ivrit in that article?

  15. They NEED a letter when R' Yudel can show anyone with eyesight that the bugs are there. But when the OU makes wild claims with no proof, that is ok in their book.

  19. Even the sachdus & vilover nori may not have the seahorses and shrimps, but they do have the smaller colored copepods among others.
