Alert from Hisachdus Harabonim Di'Lakewood re: Strawberries / BlueberriesALL Fresh, Frozen, canned, pie-filling Blueberries were found to be highly infested.
Do not use any product with blueberries, including;
pies
Cheese cake
Muffins
Gevina yougurts and Lebens
Reb Lipa Klein Crc Hisachdus Brooklyn says;
Hisachdus doesn't make recalls.
R' Yosef Eisen once said in a public shiur in Flatbush that Rav Beck from East 10th who is rav hamachshir on some major fruit preserve & filling companies is very nizhar & has well researched systems on how to strain & otherwise filter out bugs. There is a bakery in Passaic under hashgocho of R' Yidel Gruber that is using blueberry filling, I think under Rav Beck.

Costco's Bakery in the holy 5 Towns (under the OK) had cheesecake with fresh strawberries.

What is the status of the OK? Can we trust them anymore or are they less reliable than a conservative hechsher??
I don't think the Levys at OK have EVER admitted they even made a single mistake.
ReplyDeleteThe yeshiva oylam stopped eating from them in the 1980s after a couple of scandals where they denied but were caught red handed. Bertha Levy says the rabbonim "killed" her husband with "false" accusations.
The more recent scandals like no mashgiach on Pesach cocoa from China they get very snappy & deny everything.
The Costco cheesecake 'mistameh' also has a layer of blueberries inside AND uses Orange juice instead of milk. Don't forget the Chocolate icing that is made from Passover cocoa.

ReplyDeleteWere there any Star K mashgichim there in Orlando on Shavuos? They are the only major hashgocho who do toyava events. Ask them though and they vehemently deny that those supervisors at toyava "weddings" disguised in jeans & baseball caps work for them.
Then again, they also deny that operating their appliance computers is chilul Yomtov.
