TARNOGOL BREED "TREIF": The "Galante Rav" drop Hisachdus CRC like a hot potato?
The Tarnogol was discovered to have serious issues that make it a TREIFA. One MUST kasher their utensils.
The reason the Galanta Rav had to drop hastily his position at the
Bais-Din Linyunei kashrus- HISACHDUS/CRC, was because of the big michshoilm of the TARNOGOL breed chicken.
The Tarnogol does not have any Mesorah.

Alert! Israeli produce in the market- Tithing required
During the last week or so, the market in New York/New Jersey has seen the arrival of colored
peppers from Israel. One should separate terumah and Maaser and Maaser Sheini in the approved manner. This year is the 5th year of the Shemita cycle and is therefore a year of Maaser Shaini, not Maaser Ani.
Our observations show that most red and orange (and sometime yellow) ORGANIC peppers at this time of the year are from Eretz Yisrael, but one should look for the sticker. Green peppers are seldom from Eretz Yisrael. If past years are anything to go by regular colored peppers from Israel will come in a couple of weeks.

Fairway has organic peppers from Israel at this time, but not regular non-organic. Israeli peppers have also been seen at Trader Joe, Shoprite and West Side Markets.
Needless to say, professional mashgichim in food service situations should check the cases of produce coming into commissaries.
In retail stores, there are sometimes mixtures in the same bin, and a sheila should be asked if someone has purchased peppers of these types and does not see a label, that would create a multiplicity of Sfaikos and should be brought to a competent halachic authority.

Going to Bais Din- some of the pitfalls, what are your options?
A Bais-Din that encourages "Toi'anim".
A Bais Din that Does not allow "Toi'anim", but do allow lawyers members of the bar.
A Bais that charges by the hour or part thereof.
A bais Din that charges a flat fee, or does not charge at all.
A Bais Din that has a review process, where it sent to another outside, i.e. Eretz Yisroel Bais Din for review (We are not refereeing to a "Ni'talis Yu'dayim" Botei-Dinim"- where one hand washes the other).
A Bais Din that does not allow for review and will not agree to a "Ba'meh-dan'tuni".
********************************************************************
In the USA, a Toen needs no credentials, just a shingle and "chutzpah", doesn't even have to know the code of Jewish law. Their motto is "if you can't convince them, just confuse them with …"
Most all American insist on using a Toen, because they bring the cases to the Botei Dinim, they draw out the hours, the unneeded multiple sessions.
And no Appeal process by another Bais Din nor a peer review.
These days you have to be wealthy to go to a Din Torah.
There are some reputable, qualified Botei Dinim that charge a minimum, e.g. $500.00 for a choshen Mishpat case, no "toe'anim", peer review by an Israeli Bais din or they'll give you "ba'meh-Dan'tuni".
viable options;
Shaar Hamishpat, Monsey, NY
Bais Din of America, NY, NY.
Be aware that all of the Toen driven Bais Dins will say that these Botei Din are not an acceptable Bais Din. (all in the spirit of ingrained corruption). Therefore when writing any contract, specify that the arbitration must be only by one of the above listed Botei-Dinim.

Yoshon Alert-Winter wheat is always yoshon- there may be shortages
(Bloomberg) -- America’s bread basket looks like it’s going gluten free: Dogged by lower prices and tepid demand, U.S. wheat farmers are poised to plant the fewest acres of winter varieties in 110 years.
That’s according to a Bloomberg survey. Analysts are predicting
another year of declines for acreage as U.S. producers face stiff competition
from global rivals gathering bumper crops. World supplies are so plentiful that
futures for hard red winter wheat are down about 15% in 2019, one of the worst
performances for commodities this year. In some parts of the southern U.S.
Plains, wheat is now cheaper than corn, making the yellow grain a better bet.
“The price doesn’t get high enough to tell us to keep planting
wheat,” said Ken Horton, who grows wheat, corn and sorghum with his sons in
Leoti, Kansas. Horton is cutting plantings of the HRW wheat variety by 30% to
about 3,000 acres.
“Any time you have cash corn higher than cash wheat, you’ll see
more acres go to corn,” Horton said in a telephone interview.
As of Oct. 27, U.S. farmers had planted 85% of their winter
wheat, up from 77% at the same time in 2018, according to U.S. Department of
Agriculture data.
However, rains in parts of the Midwest may hamper the last phase
of sowing. Some growers who double-crop wheat in soybean fields might not be
able to harvest their soy in time to seed wheat, according to Arlan Suderman,
chief commodities economist at INTL FCStone in Kansas City. That could result
in fewer planted acres of the soft red winter variety, he said.
“There’s quite a correlation in soybean-harvest pace and wheat
plantings,” Suderman said by phone.
Planted acres of all varieties of winter wheat are forecast to
decline to 31.118 million, according to a Bloomberg survey of six analysts.
That would be down from 31.159 million a year ago and above only the 29.196
million acres from 1909, the first year in USDA records. The agency won’t make
an official estimate until January.
In the Texas Panhandle, farmers are turning to cotton instead of
wheat, said Darby Campsey, director of communications and producer relations at
the Texas Wheat Producers.
“The low wheat prices have given way to other options,” she
said.

Alert: Lakewood Kesubos / Gittin correct spelling of Lakewood
The attached newly discovered מעשה בית דין written by Maran Harav Moshe Feinstein זצ"ל, clearly shows his opinion that the correct spelling of the name of the town “Lakewood” in Hebrew is “ליקבוד”. As such, all כתובות written in Lakewood should be spelled ליקבודaccording to this ruling of the פוסק הדור.
Regarding the writing of Gittin which is much more חמור than כתובות, the spelling of the name of the town must be decided by the גדולי הדור. The Chasam Sofer in Teshuvos states, that before starting to write Gittin in a new town, the גדולי הדור must convene and decide how Gittin should be written in that town. This includes both the spelling of the name of the town and the rivers that must be written in a גט, as well as the spelling of those rivers.
It should also be noted that at times both Roshei Yeshiva of Lakewood, Maran Harav Aharon Kotler זצ"ל and his son Harav Shneur Kotler זצ"ל spelled Lakewood in Hebrew, ליקבוד, exactly as spelled by Reb Moshe זצ"ל.

Food for thought.
"Sell by" date, Best by, Best if used by, Best before, Use by, born on, Packed on, Guaranteed fresh, etc.confusing?
Let us break these down for a better understanding as to what is what here.
Has anyone experienced this lately? The moment we begin to realize that the pack of food we bought is about to expire. Our creative side begins to think up brand new dishes which now include a mix of foods we normally would not put together. Well, before you begin making what will most likely become something with word SURPRISE in it, you may want to learn the truth about those dates on your food.

Better than OU!
Better than the OU?
Monday May 4, 2015 5:33 PM -
In an interview in Mishpacha’s current issue, the co-owner of First Choice baby foods tells of his impetus for starting his business:
“I’m a chassidishe guy - I got married at 19. We had a baby, and when we went to the grocery store, my wife took the Beech-nut jar off the shelf - that’s all they had. I said, “Let’s try to get one with a better hechsher. You get water with a hechsher, salt with a hechsher - why not this?“
My opinion may not count. I have been known to buy water without a hechsher. But when faced with the choice of competing hechsherim, I will usually prefer the OU insignia to that of a mom-and-pop outfit.
It’s been decades since I last heard OU kashrus characterized as run by a bunch of modernish rabbis who spend most of the day mixed swimming with their wives who don’t cover their hair, and got semicha through a multiple-choice test. It wasn’t true back then, and it is certainly not true today.
Having had many friends who worked in kashrus, I’ve heard all the stories - the good, the bad, the ugly. I know that anyone who walks into the daily mincha minyan of the OU mashgichim has to be impressed by their yiras shomayim, their credentials as talmidei chachamim, and the diversity of yeshivos from which they came. I know that many kashrus decisions today require technical skills to analyze complexities of modern food technology. The new guy on the block just doesn’t have the experience and access to specialists that larger outfits like the OU has. And I would never, ever want to trust a for-profit kashrus organization (i.e. where the mashgichim or administrators gain or lose depending on whether a particular account is retained) when I could chose a hashgacha like the OU in which pecuniary gain is not a direct issue. I also appreciate the fact that the top of the halachic pyramid at the OU is occupied by two recognized authorities, not one. Add to that some items that the small guys don’t provide - the transparency about policies, access to mashgichim, and a data base of issues and answers.
Unfortunately, while no kashrus agency has a perfect record, the stories I’ve heard about some of the smaller operators leave me even more committed to the OU. These include the selection of personnel by some of the other agencies on the basis of beard length and nusach davened, rather than competence. Or, when faced with the really intractable problems, having to go elsewhere for advice and for important ingredients - usually to the OU!
Always eager to learn, I looked to the rest of the article to find out what makes some other hechsher better than that of the OU. When nothing showed up, I went to the “About” section of the company’s website. Nothing there either about wanting to offer a product with a “better” hechsher than the OU. I did learn, however, that the company’s products are under the supervision of the OU. (They are also serviced by several other agencies, all of whom charge for their overlapping services. Kashrus, it seems, has become more partisan than a congressional joint subcommittee meeting. The costs of having multiple hashgachos, of course, are passed on to the consumer. Insisting on “better” hechsherim than the OU has a price - and we, the consumers pay it.)
While I have little use for water with a hechsher, I would guess that HKBH loves the dedication of the individual consumer who insists on what he or she believes are hidurim in kashrus. I am staking a lot on a conviction that He also appreciates those with a dogged commitment to the bottom line in Shulchan Aruch that does not demand those hidurim as a matter of law, and to the approach of many sugyos in Chulin where Chazal permitted entire classes of foodstuffs - without supervion at all - because they considered any objections to be not of real halachic concern.
I don’t believe for a second, however, that it is ever appropriate to go for the hidurim at the expense of basic competence. I’ll go with the OU.
Likely, the interviewee who uttered those few ill-considered words was just having a bad day.
Must have been something he ate.

Is this a choshen mishpat or Yoreh Dayah issue?
As is well known, people have their kashrus preferences in the meat and poultry they eat.
If your butcher department carries also the brands that you do not use, yet he uses the same uncleaned tables, knives, grinders, slicers, etc.
So in essence you are getting THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR!
Make sure you ascertain in advance what brands they carry and process.
A " Sefardi" would have those issues as well re: Bet Yosef.
We recently became aware that Kosher West starting using, processing AGRI, etc.
