Alert- Re: all Strawberries of Bodek & B'gan, regardless of dates, lots, etc. DO NOT USE ANY OF THEM REGARDLESS OF DATES, ONLY PEELED STRAWBERRIES ARE INSECT FREE!

Public Notice

Regarding Bodek and B'gan Frozen Strawberries

It has been noted that both Bodek and B'gan—two separate companies—market frozen strawberries produced in Peru. Under existing arrangements, the primary certifying authorities including Rabbi Shmuel Teitelbaum, Minchas Chinuch Hashgocha and the OU rely entirely on the insect-free certification of Rabbi Aharon Teitelbaum (the Nirbater Rav), who oversees the initial production for B’Gan etc. in Peru. Consequently, no independent, secondary reinspection of these products is conducted before they are marketed.

Recently, independent kashrus individuals not affiliated with Bodek or B’gan have reportedly discovered insect infestations in these imported frozen strawberries from Peru. These findings have called into serious question the reliability of the current certifications, particularly because the specific authorities being relied upon are widely known not to be specialized experts in insect infestation or entomological kashrus inspection protocols. This raises severe concerns within the community regarding whether the oversight is sufficient to guarantee that the strawberries are entirely insect-free.

The Halachic Context

From a halachic standpoint, strawberries are widely recognized as much’zak be’tolaim (substantiated and presumed to be infested). Due to the nature of their textured surface, many halachic authorities maintain that it is virtually impossible to ensure they are insect-free through standard commercial washing alone.

As a result, a growing consensus of halachic experts advises that consumers should not rely on pre-washed frozen strawberries—even those bearing multiple prominent certifications. Instead, strawberries should only be used if they are completely peeled, as this is the only definitive way to ensure they are free of insects.

Current Actions and Lack of Public Alerts

Reports indicate that the certifying Rabbonim have quietly directed companies to remove affected stocks from retail store shelves. However, no public alerts have been issued to warn families who may already have these products stored in their home freezers, or who may have already used them in prepared foods.

The Problem with Undated Notices

Notably, both the B'gan and Bodek consumer notices are undated. An undated notice is a significant irregularity in any consumer-protection context:

  • No Traceability: It cannot be tied to specific production lots, shipment dates, or timeframes.
  • Lack of Accountability: It allows the notice to be quietly circulated—or quietly withdrawn—without creating a fixed public record of when the problem was acknowledged.
  • Consumer Ambiguity: Neither notice identifies lot codes, production dates, or a date range of affected product, leaving consumers with no way to determine whether strawberries already in their freezers are NOT included.

The absence of dates and lot identification points to a broader systemic concern: that a system relying on a single initial inspection—conducted by an authority lacking specialized infestation expertise, with no independent secondary reinspection—cannot reliably distinguish clean lots from infested ones. If the certifiers were confident in identifying which specific lots were affected, standard practice would be to disclose them. The decision to instead pull all Peruvian-sourced product, without dates or lot numbers, speaks for itself, THE CURRENT SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK!

Conclusion

The lack of a transparent public statement or formal clarification from the certifying Rabbonim in the wake of these independent findings has created significant ambiguity for kosher consumers. This prolonged silence leaves the current safety and halachic status of these batches open to serious question, heightening the urgency for consumers to discard these items or consult their own competent halachic authorities before using them.

A division of Coca Cola is the "Simply" line of juices. (Not to be confused with Bunim Laskin's "Swimply") The pineapple juice is NOT from concentrate but it is strained. Does R' Yudel think the level of straining is sufficient to remove the types of insects in pineapples?

The Bodek letter is only 2 days old

(& ironic that they publicized it in Heinemann town where Star K is the Avi Avos infestation!)

Hes a Rosh Kollel probably no knowledge of hechsher since restaurants are harder to keep kosher! Than a factory that will do simple fruits etc..

Everyone should beware of Shalom Torah Academy in Manalapan. The place is a complete mess. Not sure what they’re trying to do but they’re firing good teachers left and right, kicking our kids for no reason etc. People are so turned off by the backstabbing and underhandedness of the principal that they’re sending their kids to public school including some Lakewood families.

If the issue of strawberries are spotted wing drosophila eggs and larve so how does peeling guarantee 100 insect free. For decades now, everyone has been doing a precheck on strawberries (prior to cleaning ie peeling and rinse strawberries before use) to make sure no eggs and larve are found. Otherwise the infestation can be in the flesh of strawberries. So peeling strawberries for infestation of
drosophila will not guarantee anything.

Peeling strawberries eliminates thrips. Drosophila flies are an invasive pest that recently came from Japan. They haven’t gotten to all areas yet. They are usually easy to identify because after just a couple days that the eggs turn to maggots they already cause visible damage to the fruit that make people avoid eating it. And the maggots also decide to exit the fruit in many cases. They do attack cherries too. They could but don’t often attack peaches & grapes because while they like the fruit flesh they don’t like the skin. They are least likely to attack wine grapes that have tougher skin than regular grapes

Why is a Lakewood kalba with a huge chip on her shoulders the principal of Shalom Torah Academy? It’s a coed Zionist school. It should be run by a professional not a mentally unstable and incompetent yenta

a growing consensus of halachic experts
Who are these 'experts'? What is their expertise? Phony 'mesorah' which means 'I don't know where to find the sugya if I look with both hands'?

Considering her name, is she related to one of the Long Beach roshei yeshiva?

Aviva Hoberman is the principal of Shalom Torah. She doesn’t seem to be mentally stable which explains why the best she could do is a position at a failing school. Her husband is a Dayan and her father a ruv so good luck trying to fight her in Din Torah.

Thank you for confirming what we have be commenting for years. But Yudels Rabbis - as in Bodek and B'gan Rabbis - beg to differ with the facts. MABEY he or the Yudel rabbis ( which are probably the same) like strawberries and need some hairsplitting heter to allow themselves Strawberries. Just like they invented the Mitzvah loshon Horah Etc.
On the end of the day, Bodek and Bgan specifically post ALL PERU Strawberries.
They also pointed out that they 'maintain the highest standards in Kashrus'. After finishing to read just that line you should of erased the rest of the letters since the Yudel Rabbis have been claiming for decides that these 2 companies have no standards, let alone highest Standards.
To conclude, If you rely on Yudel you should never of ad these strawberries in your home. If you rely on the Companies' Rabbis - AKA their Hashgacha, the get rid of Peru strawberries only and leave the peeled strawberries (even those from Peru) for the Yudel team So the can enjoy their strawberries as well.

Her husband who has to be the son or nephew of Long Beach is “dayan” at Philly’s fake entity that’s not allowed to operate as a “Beis Din” as per psak of several gedolim. Her father is a long time Baltimore talmid who climbed the ladder at Agudah. Long Beach, Philly & Baltimore all perfected the art of covering up corruption

The problem described in Manalapan / Marlboro is nebich more common than people think & is often greed and/or outright rishus, lav davka mental illness. Corrupt therapy agencies are shtupping administrators with shoichad at mosdos & sometimes also school district officials. You see, there is a lot of $$$ to feed from at the chazir trough of government funds when you (mis)label a child with some kind of disability(ies). Some of the especially corrupt agencies are actually taking kids & destroying them for life when they can get away with lying to shtup them into a full day center where the profit is much greater than sending a therapist for limited slots. There are also instances of sending kids out of the mosdos to their doom without profiting from it. In one case it was so insidious that it boiled down to a preschool Dreck-tor being Left Wing Modern Orthodox who hates Bnei Torah, like was the case in Clifton. They did BH finally part ways with her but she moved her poisonous presence to the area Jewish Family Services.

Oh. This sounds just like inzerah heimishe yeshiva guys who cant afford tuition and get the :Lakewood Board of Education to pay for it. those out of town schools aka as yeshivahs charge the BOE numbers that even the richest parents does not pay. The result, thew state came in and fired many many yeshivah vibeh who supporeted their masmidim husband and families. But thats all OK. The tax rise every tocover these ganovim and nobody says anything. but when a nasty parent abuses a Shalom principle, oh that a great avelah.
Go figure.

I know about the psak, but it seems as though the minhag haolam in lakewood is to use the 'entity'. All gittin in Lakewood are still done through them, at least one of those who signed against them sends people to them, and the various kol kores are being ignored.

So, next time you get divorced, don't bother with anyone else.
