"ALERT" RE: ....... Car rentals in Lakewood.

 LIABILTY INSURANCE IS NOT AVAILABLE,

EVEN THOUGH THEIR CONTRACT SAYS

$15.00 @ DAY FOR LIABILITY.

You may be liable for tens of thousand of dollars, just in case!

It is also prudent for those renting a car (from ANY rental agency, this comment is not reflective of any experience with the rental agency mentioned) that you check the miles recorded upon taking the car out prior to signing the rental agreement.

It must if been some great GREAT mitzvah to mention a name when it is explicit that it applies to all rental companies.
I guess in Elul this blog is looking for extra credit mitzvos and real extra zechutim.

Someone is in for a great great surprise.

Also check and document noticeable car damage before accepting the car, so not charged as if you did it. When I did that at a "rent a wreck" agency , they opted to cancel the rental!

The chofetz chaim is very clear in a few places including todays chapter, in order to protect one self or others, etc.

It was OK to mention what you should look out when renting a car but it is NOT OK to mention a specific name when the intent is only to warn people what to watch out for when renting a car.
But since you know how to read the Chofetz Chayim better then I, I was Dan left zechut (as remote as it is) that your looking for big zechutim and giant Mizvot in Elul.

By law, they must maintain liability insurance on their vehicles. This is just another scam for them to make a few dollars. But they are better than the other agency in town that makes false claims against your credit card for "damages" that never happened.

Car Rental agencies (and car owners) must maintain "minimum" liability coverage on their vehicles, and rely on the car insurance coverage of the renter for liability. The problem is for renters who do NOT own a vehicle. a non-owner wanted to add the additional liability coverage offered and listed on the rental agreement. The agent said we don't offer that insurance! Then additional liability coverage should not be offered..many local renters are NOT car owners yet don't realize their liability consequences from an at fault crash. Seems that the liability coverage offer is listed to protect the rental agency..." Well, we offered the additional coverage, but the renter declined"

My father rented a car from a well known company in NYC in the 1960s. Has an accident (was questionable if any bodily injury).
Fifteen years later, a process server drops off a two inch thick pile of papers.
Turns out, the well known rental company (still in business at the time, by the way) went bankrupt, and were self insured over $10K NYS requirement, and had a $250,000 excess policy with $50,000 deductible that was also bankrupt in Chicago, and was not licensed in NYS).
The judge in the case said "agree to a BIG judgement, they'll never collect on it from you, but since they'll collect 10¢ on the dollar in Chicago court, have to have BIG judgement since 10¢ on dollar isn't much on this case, but 10¢ on BIG judgement is decent.". And my father would get screwed either way.
That's how the liability insurance system works.
