Update-Alert: Israel prosecutor V. Bais Din "Nesivos Chaim"

Alert: Allegedly the Israeli Prosecutor is contemplating to file serious charges  and close the   Bais Din Nesivos Chaim  3 Panim Meirot, Jerusalem, for their mishandling of Dinei Torahs.

Any Siruv, Loi-Tzais, Cherem, etc they put out will be dealt with very harshly by the Israeli Court's prosecutor.
Their verdicts will be dismissed and be null & void!

Don't use this Bais Din as you may find yourself being forced by the prosecutor to testify against them.

Update: There are countless people that were wronged by  this Bais-Din. Many individuals that won, feel that some of the money they won is bi'gineivah. (they were not entitled to it.)

KCL standards are strictly "political" not any kashrus standards- why pay exorbirant "protection- money"?

AH! The Roshei Yeshiva say "only KCL".

Welcome to Lakewood * KCL=Pritzus, Infestation, etc All in the name of Torah

yudel- Why does the Yeshivas KCL allow goyisha girls at Carlos and Gabbys work there with short sleeves?

Especially the blund'eenah  that works there.......
Oh! to practice שמירת עיניים in אלול.

Is she there to entice the customers like the Rt 9 South restaurant with the $200.00 dollar wines on the menu for the poor yeshivaleit? or the $100.00 dollar steaks?

She may also be the Mashgiach(ta), multi tasking.

The  KCL allows non shomer shabbos chefs, that is also the mashgiach and checks the vegetables for insects.

Yudel, We are in big trouble

I agree 100% with this poster. Also, the seating at Calos & gabby's here in Lakewood is such that with today's ladies dress style, when they sit at their seats, you can see EVERYTHING!
That's why after one time going in there, I decided never to walk in there again. As far as the [BMG's] KCL is concerned, I'm not 1 bit surprised.

Infestation Update from Rav Moshe Vaye

Rav Moshe Vaye, Lakewood- on Sunday Parshas Ri'aye gave a shiur on infestation for women. Then gave another shiur for Mechanchois in Girl schools. Stressed the importance of having all girl high schools & seminaries to teach hands on bedikas toloyim. It's been taught in eretz yisroel successfully in the Girl schools for many years. It must be part of the curriculum.

1- Chestnuts- Fresh- after cooking or baking, each one must be opened and checked for infestation. Peeled and cooked with good hashgocha from China- a cursory check is recommended.
2- Corn on the cob- Fresh, Frozen-Commonly infested with thrips & mites hiding under kernels. Must be de-kernilized prior to cooking, rinsed. Baby corn, no issues. Frozen or canned kernels-no issues.
3- Blueberries- Fresh, Frozen, Filling, etc- Scales, Mites, Maggots- unrealistic to clean, check-do not use.
4- Grapes- mites- Break into small cluster, do not remove from stem- wash with soapy water 3 times & rinse. Then seperate and rinse under water while rubbing each grape.
5- Apricots- Fresh- open, remove pit, check. Dried from Turkey- split open & check inside for infestation. If not fresh check outside for small whitish that may be mites.
6- Dates- split open check along area of pit for infestation.
7-Garlic- Mites, thrips- Must be carefully peeled, then rinsed while rubbing each one. Wash knife & table.
Pre-peeled garlic- must wash each one.
8- Scach-סכך Kainus- Booklice, worms- lay flat, bang with a stick above a white paper or sheet, inspect for insects. If found, spray with hot water & chlorine both sides- let dry, then rinse. Stand on end, bang with stick, inspect for worms or insects. When storing, put into plastic with mothballs.

9- Orange Juice- fresh, concentrate-Scale insects- very common, even with hashgochas- Aidah Yerushalem says must be sifted with a 70 mesh sifter, Rav Vaye recommends to sift through a white shirt.

ALERT: Due to various kashrus issues, especially infestation- All kosher cookbooks should be reviewed by a Responsible kashrus authority prior to publication.

Sales of Kosher Cookbooks Soar as New Books are Planned

Brooklyn, NY…Kosher cookbooks are hot sellers, according to Judaica stores in many parts of the country. One quipped: “Instead of taking the time to teach daughters the art of kosher cooking, most mothers nowadays simply buy one of some 90 kosher cookbooks now on the market, including the popular Kosher by Design (Suzie Fishbein) and Joy of Kosher (Jamie Geller) series.” A number of other cookbooks are in the works, according to sources which may very well bring the total to well over 100 by the end of 2015. By comparison, in 1980, said one Judaica store owner, he could recall only three, led by the popular cookbook by the Lubavitch Women’s Organization. Amongst the new cookbooks planned is Jewish Soul Food by Carol Green Ungar. Set for release in Spring 2015, the author claims that it “is the first ever Shabbat and holiday cookbook, to include not just recipes but in depth explanations of the deep meanings behind our most beloved Jewish foods.” One Judaica store said that despite his full selection of “sfarim” (Jewish holy books), ranging from the Talmud to ordinary sidurim (prayer books), the cookbooks represent more than 25% of his overall sales. By comparison in 2000, it was less than 10%.

Kashrus Alert: RE: Don't rely on KCL (on Blueberries-לאפרושי מאיסורא)

Kashrus Alert: RE: Don't rely on Voice's article on Blueberries-לאפרושי מאיסורא

The Article states some very misleading and wrong information, which was approved  written by
Rabbi Weisner  KCL.

The article seems to say that only the Michigan & New Jersey Blueberries are a problem. The actual facts are that all blueberries are to be considered infested.

The article also states that frozen ones..only with a good hashgocha- The facts are that the BODEK brand  of frozen blueberries are also infested.

There aren't any blueberries  today in the market with a hashgocha that are acceptable, that is why J&J, Mehadrin, Givat, Norman's do not use any blueberries.

KCL still allows "infested" blueberries in their certified establishments.

IT TOOK  KCL A FULL 2 YEARS TO ADMIT THAT BLUEBERRIES ARE A SERIOUS INFESTATION PROBLEM-The BMG's KCL misled the Tzibur and encouraged to consume infested food. R"L
The following insect infestation information is from on August 1, 2014.
"BLUEBERRIES: The KCL (Kashrus Council of Lakewood) recently concluded a thorough testing of blueberries in local grocery stores. 100% of the containers contained scale insects. Between 10% and 20% of the berries had scales on them. We are advised that this number is consistent with weekly agricultural blueberry reports issued be Rutgers University. One of the Bodkim reported that 50% of the scales are males, which contain a whole insect. A Bedikas Tolaim expert advised us that based on these findings, he would not recommend buying blueberries--as the scale insects cannot be readily washed off. In his words: 'If you want to check them, be very careful and very thorough. If you think that you found and removed the infested ones then soak the remaining ones in soap and rinse very thoroughly.'"
